Dr. S. Babu, after completing his B.A and M.A. Degrees in History in the Madras Christian College of Madras University, did his M. Phil. Degree in the Central University of Hyderabad, on the Dissertation entitled, "The English Trade on the Coromandel Coast: 1611-1652". He obtained his Ph.D. for his Doctoral thesis, "Sea-Borne Trade of India and the English East India Company, 1600-1657" from the Pondicherry Central University.
He served in the Tamil Nadu Collegiate Educational Service for few a years, before joining as a Lecturer in History at Kanchi Mamunivar Centre for Post-Graduate Studies (Autonomous), Pondicherry and headed the Department of History from 2014 to 2015. He headed the Department of History, Avvaiyar Government College for Women, Karaikal till 8th January 2018 and resumed Headship of the Department of History, Kanchi Mamunivar Centre for P.G. Studies till he assumed the duties of Principal, Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Arts College, Kalitheerthalkuppam, Puducherry on 09.08.2018.
